To ensure the installation accuracy, operational stability and subsequent normal use of granite surface plates, the complete standard procedures for installation, leveling and commissioning are publicized as follows. All operations shall be conducted in compliance with specifications with strict attention to details to achieve qualified installation.
Unpacking and Cleaning
Carefully take the granite surface plate out of the package. Remove dust, debris and packaging residues from the top and bottom surfaces to prevent foreign matter from affecting installation accuracy.
Positioning the Support Frame
Transport the integrated mounting frame to the designated installation area, and place it steadily in the preset orientation and angle. Ensure the frame stands firmly with even load bearing, free from tilting or displacement.
Lifting and Positioning the Plate
Use a forklift or crane to lift the granite surface plate to a height of 100–300 mm above the support frame.
Important Notes: Provide full protection to the plate during lifting to prevent collision, scratches and abrasion. While suspended, adjust the plate’s X and Y positions to align the circular support points on the plate bottom with the jacks on the frame. Lower the plate slowly and steadily, and fine-tune the position continuously during descent to achieve perfect alignment between the support points and jacks for uniform load distribution.
Specialized tools shall be used to guarantee leveling accuracy, as listed below:
Testing Instruments: Digital electronic level; Frame level (preferred for higher precision)
Auxiliary Tool: Adjustable wrench
The two-way precise positioning and leveling method is adopted. Perform leveling along the Y-axis first, then the X-axis to meet the overall flatness requirements.
Y-axis Leveling
Place the level along the Y direction of the plate and record the initial reading. Rotate the level 180° and take a second reading. Adjust the height of the main support points with the wrench until the two readings are identical, completing the preliminary Y-axis leveling.
X-axis Leveling
Reposition the level along the X direction and follow the same method as Y-axis leveling. Adjust the corresponding single support point to obtain consistent readings twice.
Precision Calibration
After two-way leveling, take repeated readings at four positions along X and Y axes. The final readings shall be nearly identical and close to zero.
Reading Interpretation: A positive reading indicates the tested side is higher; a negative reading means the opposite side is lower. Adjust the height of main supports gradually according to deviations to correct the flatness.
After the main supports are leveled, raise each auxiliary support one by one until its top is in full contact with the plate bottom with no gaps or clearance.
Key Operation Requirements: Auxiliary supports shall only bear moderate contact force. Do not over-tighten or apply excessive jacking force, which may lift the plate and compromise the calibrated flatness.
Final Standard: All auxiliary supports shall bear load evenly with consistent contact. The plate shall remain level, stable, free from displacement and deformation.
Perform all lifting and leveling operations gently and slowly. Avoid rough handling to protect the precision and surface of the granite surface plate.
Conduct repeated measurements during leveling to ensure accurate data and maintain long-term operational precision.
Ensure all supports are properly aligned and evenly loaded. Avoid overloading on a single point to extend the service life of the equipment.
