Granite precision inspection platforms serve as the core reference measuring tools in machinery manufacturing, precision inspection, metrology laboratories, mold processing and other fields. Boasting the natural granite’s advantages of dense structure, high hardness, excellent wear and corrosion resistance, great thermal stability and low deformation tendency, they have become essential equipment for high-precision dimensional inspection, marking, calibration and assembly operations.

As a professional measuring tool manufacturer, EAST STAR Precision Instrument has been deeply engaged in the R&D and production of granite precision platforms for many years. We fully recognize that high-quality equipment relies on refined maintenance.

Nevertheless, granite platforms feature high brittleness, vulnerability to impact, and sensitivity to temperature and humidity. Minor negligence in daily use will cause flatness deviation, surface scratches, edge chipping and cracking, which directly affect the accuracy of inspection data and shorten the service life of the equipment. To maintain the micron-level precision of the platform for a long time and reduce maintenance and replacement costs, standardized and regular maintenance is indispensable. Combining years of practical industry experience, EAST STAR Precision Instrument has compiled a complete and implementable maintenance specification for granite precision inspection platforms, covering full scenarios of daily maintenance, periodic upkeep, emergency handling, storage and transportation.

   I. Daily Cleaning & Maintenance: Prevent Stain Accumulation and Protect the Reference Working Surface

Cleaning is the foundation of granite platform maintenance, following the core principles of particle-free friction, corrosion-free residue and full gentle operation, so as to avoid damaging the high-precision working surface during cleaning.

  1. Daily Dust Removal: Before and after each operation, wipe the platform working surface in one direction with dust-free soft cloth, microfiber cloth or soft fine brushes to completely remove iron filings, dust, grit and sundries. Rough cloths, steel wool and hard brushes are prohibited, as hard particles may scratch the mirror working surface and damage the flatness precision.

  2. Deep Cleaning: For slight oil stains, handprints and mild dirt, soak dust-free cloth with anhydrous ethanol of 99.7% or higher concentration, wipe evenly in one direction, and let it air dry naturally without secondary water rinsing. Acid-base and corrosive detergents, laundry powder and disinfectant are strictly forbidden to avoid eroding the stone surface and causing weathering and discoloration.

  3. Cleaning Prohibitions: Do not flush the platform directly with water. Prevent moisture from penetrating into the tiny pores of the stone, which may lead to dampness and precision drift in the long run. Ensure the working surface is completely dry after cleaning with no water residue.

II. Standard Operation Rules: Avoid Precision Damage from the Source

Granite platforms have high hardness but extreme brittleness, with poor impact resistance and pressure resistance. Most precision faults are caused by non-standard operations, and standard operating rules must be strictly followed in daily work.

  1. Handle with Care: Place workpieces, measuring tools and instruments steadily on the working surface. Throwing, dragging and impacting are strictly prohibited to prevent edge chipping, sand shedding and cracks caused by falling heavy objects. Heavy workpieces shall be moved by hoisting equipment and placed steadily to avoid instantaneous local overpressure.

  2. No Overload Pressure: Do not pile heavy objects or workpieces on the platform surface for a long time, which may cause irreversible plastic deformation of the stone and exceed flatness tolerance. Operations such as knocking, grinding, cutting and welding on the platform are forbidden to avoid mechanical impact and high-temperature burn damage.

  3. Zoned Standard Operation: Fix specific inspection areas as far as possible to prevent long-term concentrated friction on a single position by workpieces and tools. Sharp tools such as files, drills and calipers shall not be placed directly on the working surface to prevent scratch damage.

III. Operating Environment Control: Stabilize Working Conditions and Prevent Precision Drift

The measurement accuracy of granite platforms is highly sensitive to the environment. Unqualified temperature, humidity, vibration and dust conditions will directly lead to inspection errors. Environmental control is the key to stable precision.

  1. Constant Temperature & Humidity Control: The optimal operating temperature is 20℃±1℃, with relative humidity controlled at 40%-60%. Keep the platform away from air conditioner outlets, door and window vents, and direct sunlight. Severe temperature changes will cause thermal expansion and contraction of the stone and result in flatness deviation. Dehumidification equipment shall be equipped in humid environments to prevent stone deformation and surface mildew caused by moisture absorption.

  2. Isolate Vibration Interference: Place the granite platform away from vibration sources such as machine tools and stamping equipment. Long-term vibration will damage the internal structure of the stone and lead to precision attenuation. The platform shall be leveled and firmly supported during installation without shaking or empty suspension.

  3. Maintain Environmental Cleanliness: Keep the operating area clean and dust-free to reduce accumulation of dust, iron filings and oil stains, and lower the probability of pollution and wear on the working surface from the source.

IV. Periodic Professional Maintenance: Long-term Precision Stabilization & Regular Verification and Calibration

On the basis of daily cleaning and maintenance, periodic professional upkeep can eliminate potential risks in advance, ensuring the platform meets standards permanently and adapts to high-precision inspection requirements.

  1. Daily Inspection: Check the working surface for scratches, edge chipping, stains and cracks before operation, and verify if the platform is placed horizontally and stably. Stop use immediately if any abnormality is found.

  2. Weekly Maintenance: Complete comprehensive cleaning, remove dust from gaps of the platform base and bracket, inspect for loosening and wear of leveling foot pads, and adjust and fasten them timely to ensure uniform stress on the platform.

  3. Annual Verification & Calibration: As a measuring instrument, the granite precision platform is recommended to be sent to a professional metrology institution for precision verification and calibration every 6 to 12 months. Verify flatness, parallelism and other precision indicators to comply with the industry standard JB/T3411.59-99 and ensure valid and reliable inspection data.

  4. Long-term Idle Maintenance: When the platform is out of service for a long time, clean and air-dry it, apply a small amount of special stone protective maintenance agent to isolate air and moisture, then cover it with a dust-proof and waterproof cover for sealed storage to avoid dust accumulation, moisture and oxidative aging. For long-term idle maintenance, precision calibration and equipment renovation, Dongxing Precision Instrument provides one-stop supporting services to fully guarantee stable equipment operation.

V. Emergency Handling of Common Faults: Professional Repair to Avoid Scraping

Targeted treatment can be adopted for minor damages in use to prevent small faults from evolving into permanent scrapping:

  1. Minor Scratches & Dull Surface: Overall rework is unnecessary. Gently polish and repair locally with special fine diamond polishing paste to restore the flatness and finish of the working surface without affecting inspection precision.

  2. Slight Surface Wear (Depth < 0.1mm): Restore working surface precision through local fine grinding; contact the manufacturer for overall precision grinding and renovation if the wear depth exceeds the standard or large-area precision is out of tolerance.

  3. Edge Chipping, Sand Shedding & Micro Cracks: Stop use immediately and avoid operation with defects. Minor structural damage can be repaired and reinforced with special stone epoxy resin materials. Cracks and large-area edge chipping require professional on-site repair or factory return treatment to prevent damage expansion.

VI. Handling & Storage Specifications: Avoid External Force Damage

  1. Handling & Transportation: It is forbidden to drag, tilt or roll the platform by a single person. Large platforms shall be lifted steadily and placed horizontally with professional hoisting equipment. Line the bottom with buffer foam and soft cushions, and pack with wooden boxes externally to prevent collision, extrusion and deformation during transportation.

  2. Storage Requirements: The storage site shall be dry, ventilated, constant-temperature and free of corrosive gas. Place the platform horizontally with firm support. Inversion and inclined stacking are prohibited, and heavy objects shall not be piled on the tabletop.

    Conclusion

The high precision and stability of granite precision inspection platforms cannot be maintained permanently by default, but rely on refined, regular and standardized maintenance. Standard cleaning, compliant operation, strict environmental control, periodic calibration and proper storage can effectively prevent precision drift and surface damage, greatly extend the service life of equipment, and continuously ensure the accuracy and stability of precision inspection and calibration operations.
